Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides nutrition to low-income seniors with incomes of less than 130 percent of the Federal Poverty Line (approximately $15,301 for a senior living alone).

Supplemental Nutrition Food Assistance Program (SNAP)

 

If you are in need of food assistance and wish to apply for SNAP click https://mydhr.alabama.gov/ to begin the assisted application process.

 

If you are already receive SNAP benefits and have questions about your case, please call the Alabama DHR Hotline at 1 (800) 382-0499. If you do not need assistance in the SNAP application process, you can find your state application by clicking https://www.benefitscheckup.org/getsnap/.

MEDICATION ASSISTANCE

Not being able to afford medication can be one of the scariest things in the world when it seems that life and death may be dependent upon it. However, there are generally resources available to help cover the cost. According to their website, "For more than forty years the Area Agency has assessed the needs of older persons in the seven-county region in West Alabama; distributed funds for the provision of services to older adults; helped agencies and local governments plan services for older persons; and provided information about available resources to older adults and their caregivers."

University of Alabama Elder Law Clinic

"The Elder Law Clinic provides free legal assistance to individuals 60 years of age and older residing in West Alabama. Assistance is limited to non-criminal matters and is provided according to a set of priorities. As a Title III legal provider, there is no fee for the services and no income qualification required."
